MISSION, TEXAS (January 22, 2024) - On January 18, 2025, two mariachi groups from Mission CISD competed at the UIL Zone Mariachi Contest at the La Joya ISD Performing Arts Center.
Mission High School’s Mariachi Águilas and Veterans Memorial High School’s Mariachi Toros de Plata both earned Division 1 ratings, receiving straight 1's from the judges. As a result, both groups have qualified for the UIL State Mariachi Festival in Seguin, Texas, next month.
Carlos Garcia, Director of Fine Arts for Mission CISD, expressed pride in the students’ achievements, stating, "These students have worked incredibly hard, and their dedication to excellence has truly paid off. It’s a tremendous honor for both Mariachi Águilas and Mariachi Toros de Plata to represent Mission CISD at the state level. We are excited to see them continue to shine on such a prestigious stage."
RISING STARS: THE NEXT GENERATION OF MARIACHI TALENT
Additionally, on Friday, January 17, 2025, the Mission Jr. High Mariachi Independencia competed at the UIL Mariachi Evaluations and earned the Division 1 Sweepstakes award, receiving straight 1 rating from all three evaluators.
This marks the first time a middle school mariachi group from Mission CISD has competed at UIL.
Both Mission CISD high school mariachi groups are set to represent the district at the UIL State Mariachi Festival in Seguin, Texas, on February 20-21, 2025. Best of luck to these talented students as they showcase their skills on the state stage.
