Hitting the High Notes: Mission CISD Mariachi Groups Perform at UIL State Festival

MISSION, TEXAS (February 26, 2025) – Mission Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) proudly congratulates the mariachi groups from Mission High School (MHS) and Veterans Memorial High School (VMHS) for earning a coveted spot at the UIL State Mariachi Festival. This prestigious competition, held at the Seguin High School Performing Arts Center, featured the best high school mariachi ensembles from across Texas. VMHS performed on Friday, February 21, while MHS took the stage on Saturday, February 22.

The UIL State Mariachi Festival is the highest level of competition for high school mariachi groups in Texas. To qualify, ensembles must first compete at the regional level and earn a Division 1 rating to advance. The process involves months of rehearsals and preparation to meet the musical and performance standards required for state-level competition.

“Qualifying for the state contest is a tremendous achievement, and we couldn’t be prouder of these talented musicians for showcasing their dedication, passion, and pride,” said Mission CISD Director of Fine Arts, Carlos Garcia. “Their commitment to excellence is a testament to the strength of our fine arts programs and the hard work of our students and directors.”

Both Mission High School and Veterans Memorial High School mariachi groups earned recognition at the state competition, showcasing their perseverance, skill, and love for mariachi music.

Mission CISD applauds the students, directors, and families who have supported these talented musicians throughout their journey.
