MISSION, Texas (March 3, 2025) – Mission Consolidated Independent School District has been recognized with the Golden Apple Award, ranking as the No. 5 districts for the 2024 school year in United Way contributions. This honor reflects the district’s commitment to supporting students and families, with an estimated $40,000 raised to help provide essential services to those in need.
The success of this initiative was made possible by the leadership of Superintendent Dr. Cris Valdez, the dedication of all Mission CISD campuses and departments, and the efforts of Mission CISD United Way Coordinator Brenda Zamora and Executive Director of Business and Finance Sylvia Cruz.
"It is an honor to receive the Golden Apple Award for Mission CISD," said Mission CISD United Way Coordinator Brenda Zamora. "All the hard work is truly worth it. This award belongs to our incredible campus principals, staff, and departments who contributed to a cause greater than ourselves. Our pledges go a long way in providing crucial support to students and families in need."
Providing essential United Way services
Through the funds raised, United Way programs will continue to provide essential services to families in Mission CISD and the surrounding community. These services focus on four key areas:
- Education – Supporting academic success for children and youth through tutoring, early learning programs and college readiness support.
- Financial stability – Assisting families with financial planning, tax preparation (VITA) and access to economic mobility resources.
- Health – Promoting wellness through access to basic healthcare, mental health resources and initiatives that encourage healthier lifestyles.
- Safety net services – Providing assistance to families in crisis, including domestic violence support, emergency shelter, disaster relief and transportation assistance.
A community effort
Mission CISD remains dedicated to strengthening families and investing in the well-being of students. The funds raised will directly support programs that provide students and families with critical resources to improve their quality of life.
The district expresses its gratitude to everyone who pledged and participated in this effort. This achievement is a testament to the power of community and the shared mission of making a lasting impact.
