Mission CISD invests an estimated $6 million in school safety upgrades with new fencing project

MISSION, TEXAS (March 4, 2024) – Mission Consolidated Independent School District (Mission CISD) continues its commitment to student and staff safety with a new fencing project across multiple campuses among other initiatives.

 

Funded by the $655,000 School Safety Standard Grant, the $4.8 million SAFE Cycle 1 Grant, and an additional $524,000 from the SAFE Cycle 2 Grant, this nearly $5.95 million initiative will strengthen campus security by enhancing perimeter protections and ensuring compliance with Texas School Safety Center standards.

 

Strengthening Security Across Mission CISD

 

The Safety and Facilities Enhancement (SAFE) Grant was awarded to Mission CISD to support infrastructure improvements that prevent unauthorized access and improve overall school safety. This project will provide critical fencing upgrades at various elementary, junior high, high school, and alternative school campuses.

 

Schools Scheduled for Fencing Upgrades

 

The following campuses will receive fencing improvements:

  • Elementary Schools: Castro, Cantu, Pearson, Leal, O’Grady, Bryan, Mims, Escobar/Rios, Midkiff, Waitz, Marcell, Salinas, Alton, and Cavazos
  • Junior High Schools: K. White and R. Cantu
  • High Schools: Mission Collegiate High School
  • Alternative Schools: Roosevelt Alternative School

Project Features & Enhancements

 

The fencing project will include:
✔️ New fencing materials to strengthen perimeter security
✔️ Emergency exit gates for safe and efficient evacuations
✔️ Anti-scaling devices to prevent unauthorized access
✔️ Reinforced fence posts for added durability and strength

 

Project Timeline

 

Construction is set to begin in Spring 2025, with completion expected by Summer 2025. This initiative builds upon previous safety improvements at Mission High School, Veterans Memorial High School, Mission Junior High, and Alton Memorial Junior High, which were also funded under the School Safety Standard Grant.
