MISSION, TEXAS (April 7, 2025) - Veterans Memorial High School proudly celebrates Alexandra Menchaca, a Culinary Arts student, for earning 1st place in the SkillsUSA Employment Application Process competition at the District Conference.
Menchaca now advances to represent Mission CISD at the SkillsUSA State Competition, showcasing her professional skills in one of the most realistic and career-focused events offered by SkillsUSA.
The Employment Application Process competition simulates a real-world hiring experience. Students prepare a polished resume, complete a detailed job application, and participate in a mock job interview—testing their communication skills, professionalism, and career readiness.
Alexandra’s Journey to First Place
“I was honestly shocked and excited when they called my name,” said Menchaca. “All the hard work and late nights preparing paid off.”
Menchaca credits much of her success to the support of her sponsor and Culinary Arts instructor, Carolina Ramos, who helped guide her through the competitive process.
“Mrs. Ramos pushed me to polish every part of my application. She believed in me even when I was second-guessing myself,” Menchaca shared.
The Impact of Career Readiness Education
The competition helps students develop vital real-world skills:
- Writing polished and professional resumes
- Completing accurate and effective job applications
- Building confidence for job interviews
- Sharpening communication and self-presentation
“I learned how important it is to be prepared - not just for a competition, but for real-life job opportunities,” Menchaca reflected. “I’m really proud to represent VMHS at the state level. I’m nervous, but also excited to grow even more.”
Support from a Dedicated Educator
Mrs. Ramos expressed pride in her student’s dedication and growth.
“Alexandra took this challenge seriously. She went above and beyond to present herself as a true professional, and it showed. Watching her confidence grow has been incredibly rewarding.”
She added, “SkillsUSA allows students like Alexandra to apply classroom knowledge in meaningful, career-based scenarios. These are skills they will use for life.”
Eyes on State
As Alexandra prepares for the next level of competition, she continues to represent the dedication, professionalism, and college-and-career readiness that define Mission CISD students.
