The team spent much of the 2012-2013 school year planning and implementing their campaign to educate students and the community about the issue of teen dating abuse.
The awareness team members were (pictured left to right): Vanessa Osorio, Giselle Castillo, Jasmine Santos.
The HOSA students teamed up with various campus groups that included: DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America), athletics, cheerleaders, Teen Leadership, Anti-Bullying Club. Activities included art competitions, a poster campaign, classroom presentations by Women Together/Mujeres Unidas and GREAT officers, videos during school announcements, a photo campaign, sharing of information at parent meetings, presentations at area health fairs and two Mission CISD junior high schools, a conference with Mission Mayor Norberto Salinas, and television media coverage. A special 5K run and t-shirt sales not only helped raise awareness, but also helped raise money that was donated to Women Together/Mujeres Unidas.
