MHS band students advancing to state UIL competitions

                The Mission High School (MHS) band is sending a total of 37 students on to the UIL Texas State Solo and Ensemble competitions to be held in Austin, Texas in May. These students earned advancement to state based upon performances at the UIL regional competitions. The performances needed to be on a class one (college level) selection and they must have received a division one (superior) rating on the performance in order to be considered for advancement to state.

                The MHS band program also has two brass quintets and one clarinet quartet that have qualified for state. Brass quintet one consists of: Noe Jaramillo, Marco Lazo, Joe Saenz, Aaron Silva, Armando Sanchez. Brass quintet two consists of: Efren Suarez, Fernando Flores, Miguel Reyna, Aylin Reta, Abel Rios. The clarinet quartet members are: Stefanie Florez, Jesus Olivares, Alyssa Perez, Marlen Villarreal.

                The MHS band students who qualified for state solo and ensemble are: Brandon Flores, Dan Huang, Tiana Rivas, Priscilla Perez, Alyssa Perez, Jesus Olivares, Luis Blanco, Adan Coronado III, Jose Guerra III, Anibal Pena, Armando Sanchez, Efren Suarez, Christian Gonzalez, Marco Lazo, Miguel Reyna-Bravo, Armando Montemayor, Guillermo Pena, Ricardo Yruegas, Joe Saenz, Noe Jaramillo, Jose Acosta, Carlos Garcia, Ivan Guardado, William Rosa, Melissa Salinas, Osvaldo Mateo, Leonardo Salinas, Jose Ochoa, David Pena, Annautica Perez, Enrique Pina, Joseph Salinas, Clara Acosta, Jose Acosta, Jose Acosta, Xavier Alonzo, Jay Reta, William Rosa.

                The band had 41 class one solos that received first division ratings, with 36 of the students advancing to state. There were 12 class two solos that received a first division rating and seven class three solos that received the top rating. A total of 60 students received a division one rating for their solo performances. The combined medal count for all the MHS ensembles was 31.

                Students who also received a division one rating, but did not qualify for state are: Clarissa Vela, Giselle Ponce, Evelyn Garcia, Marlen Villarreal, Jeselle Gonzalez, Lesley Gutierrez, Alexandra Pimentel, Luz Torrez, Edgar Isidro, Joseph Esquivel, Fernando Flores, Aaron Silva, Jackeline Silva, William Abrams, Edwin Acosta, Vianelly Cantu, Nancy Moreno, Abel Villarreal, Jose Luis Amador, Jose Tamez, Adam Garcia, Abraham Trejo, Andrea Gonzalez.

                The MHS band had over 91 division one medals earned by students in either the solo or ensemble competition. The MHS jazz ensemble also attained the coveted division one rating for their performance of a three piece set of music.
