Pearson Elementary School is the first Mission CISD (Consolidated Independent School District) campus this school year to earn national recognition for outstanding performance in advancing reading practice and proficiency across multiple grade levels. However, Pearson is not the only campus to do so. They were quickly followed by Bryan Elementary School and Waitz Elementary School. The campuses have been awarded Accelerated Reader Master School Certification by Renaissance Learning, a Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., based company.
Master School Certification acknowledges that the school’s efforts to promote personalized reading practice, assessment of comprehension, and monitoring of progress have resulted in measurable improvements in reading proficiency.
The criteria for Master School Certification includes: all students in the school from grades kinder + are reading and taking Accelerated Reader quizzes; hand to have 85% of classrooms in the school certified as Model Classrooms; and 60% of classrooms certified as Master Classrooms.
Several Mission CISD schools have earned the Accelerated Reader Model School Certification. They are: Cantu Elementary School, Leal Elementary School, Marcell Elementary School, Mims Elementary School. This list will likely grow as the school year continues. Some of these campuses may also achieve Master status before the end of the school year.
The criteria for Model School Certification includes: all students in the school from grades Kinder+ have taken an Accelerated Reader quiz, 85% of the classrooms of the school have certified as Model Classrooms, and 60% of the classrooms have certified as Master classrooms.
The list of Master and Model schools in the district will continue to change through the remainder of the school year as students and teacher work toward the goal of Master school status.
