MHS High Flyers bring home many awards from recent competition

                The Mission High School (MHS) High Flyers recently competed in the Showmakers of America Alamo City competition. They came home with quite a few awards.

                In the officer category they received the following: sweepstakes division 1, showmanship award in the jazz, modern, and hip hop categories, third place best in category for a modern routine. The officers are: Amanda Saenz, major; Claudia Cavazos, first captain; Lidia Contreras, second captain; Cassandra Gonzalez, first lieutenant; Arlet Garcia, second lieutenant.

                In the team category, the High Flyers received sweepstakes division 1, the showmanship award in the hip hop, military, and pom categories, second place best in category for a military routine.

                In the small ensemble category, the team of Amanda Saenz, Claudia Cavazos, and Arlet Garcia received second place.

                In duet #1, Anahi Barajas and Rosa Gonzalez received a division 1. In duet #2, Crystal Hernandez and Ailee Pina received a division 1. For duet #3, Cassandra Gonzalez and Jasmine Soto received a division 2.

                The following High Flyers received at division 1 for their solo routines: Amanda Saenz, Ailee Pina, Cassandra Gonzalez, Claudia Cavazos, Arlet Garcia.

                The following High Flyers received a division 2 for their solo routines: Rosa Gonzalez, Jasmine Soto, Natalia Nevarez.

                While in San Antonio, the High Flyers also had the opportunity to perform several routines at the AT&T Center as a part of pre-game activities leading into a San Antonio Spurs game against the Dallas Mavericks.

                High Flyer directors are Jose Flores and Oneida Saenz.
