MHS JROTC Eagle Battalion earns several trophies at recent competition

                The Mission High School (MHS) JROTC Eagle Battalion recently capped off what may be their best competition year since 2005. They were one of 21 schools that participated in the recent PSJA High School JROTC Skills Competition earlier this month.

                According to battalion records, the MHS cadets won 11 competition trophies this school year, including several for placing in the top three. The Eagle Battalion has not placed in the top three for armed or unarmed drill team competitions since 2005.

                At the most recent PSJA hosted event, the Eagle Battalion earned the following trophies: first place, armed drill team regulation; third place, unarmed drill team regulation; third place, overall female color guard; third place, overall armed drill team; third place, overall competition.

                The members of the armed drill team are: Gilbert Garza (team captain), Omar Pimentel, Lorenzo Lopez, Ricardo Catete, Karen Torres, Joslynn Perez, Armando Sanchez, Jose Guerrero, William McClary, Erik Ochoa.

                The members of the unarmed drill team are: Enrique Ibarra (team captain), Alejandra Carbajal, Omar Pimentel, Lee Roy Vasquez, Erik Ochoa, Justin Perez, Joslynn Perez, Nyssa Castillo, Armando Sanchez, Raymond Becerra.

                The male color guard consists of: Omar Pimentel (team commander), Armando Sanchez, Enrique Ibarra, Gilbert Garza.

                The members of the female color guard team are: Haily Hernandez (team commander), Karen Torres, Michelle Leija, Jaquelynn Maldonado.

                The physical fitness team consists of: Jesse Cantu (team captain), Roberto Saucedo, Jesus Saucedo, Vanessa Hernandez, Lesslie Rangel, Xiomara Sanchez.

The MHS Eagle Battalion participated in a total of three competitions between January 18 and March 22. At the first competition in January, the battalion received third place for unarmed drill inspection and third place for unarmed regulation.

The February competition included athletic events with the more traditional military drills. At this competition, the battalion earned: first place for drill and ceremony, second place for volleyball, third place for color guard, third place for armed drill.

The trophies earned at the most recent competition brings the total to 11 for the year.
