VMHS Cheerleaders spend part of summer earning awards

                The Veterans Memorial High School (VMHS) Varsity and JV cheerleading squads have already started their 2014-2015 year with great success at the recent Universal Cheerleader Association camp held in late July.

                The squads earned numerous awards, including spirit awards with funky names such as the “banana”, which was earned on the third day of camp. The teams earned superior ribbons on every evaluation each day and earned a first place trophy for the extreme routine on the final day of camp. The Varsity and JV squads both received trophies for best choreography for their home pom performances.  Team honors also included a superior trophy and a leadership plaque.

                Individual honors included the following-

                Mary Ann Flores recieved the best jump award among the JV participants at camp.

                UCA All-American team members named were: Mikayla Martinez, Victoria Dominguez, Savannah Balderas, Brianna Casares, Mariah Gonzalez, Mary Ann Flores.

                Lorenna Garcia and Brianna Casares are among the few cheerleaders at the camp chosen to receive the Pin It Forward leadership pin, which is given to cheerleaders who display excellent leadership skills and motivation for others.

                The squads are under the direction of Alyssa Ramirez and Melissa Galvan.
