VMHS teacher accepted into Harvard program

                Nathanael Watt, a teacher at Veterans Memorial High School (VMHS) has been accepted into the Harvard University Mathematics for Teaching Graduate Program Class of 2017. This opportunity to pursue a Master’s Degree through the prestigious program is offered in partnership with the Texas Graduate Center, which is a component of the Texas Valley Communities Foundation.

                The program is being conducted as a part of the Harvard Extension School and entails distance learning through the Texas Graduate Center. Watt will also attend classes at Harvard University during the summer months. Mission CISD (Consolidated Independent School District) is providing an Academic Professional Fellowship.

                Program officials said the Harvard admissions interview panel was impressed with Watt’s passion and dedication to the students he serves in Mission CISD. They went on to say their expectations are that he will be an exemplary graduate student that will bring knowledge and prestige to his profession, change and innovation to his instruction, and national attention to the Rio Grande Valley as a source of excellence in education.

                The Texas Graduate Center said they were honored to welcome Watt into a special group of the very best educators in the Rio Grande Valley who are dedicated to not only improving their craft, but to initiating transformational change in mathematics instruction through the knowledge acquired from one of the most prestigious universities in the world.
