Alton Elementary School wins the Battle of the Bluebonnet Books

                Mission, Texas-  For the third year in a row, Alton Elementary School has won the Mission CISD (Consolidated Independent School District) Battle of the Bluebonnet Books.

                Each Mission CISD elementary school and junior high school, grades 3-6, had teams competed in the quiz-show style contest held recently.

                Other top place finishers in the Battle of the Bluebonnets included: Pearson Elementary School, second place; Cavazos Elementary School, third place; Leal Elementary School, fourth place; Bryan Elementary School, fifth place (tie); Marcell Elementary School, fifth place (tie); Castro Elementary School, sixth place; K. White Jr. High School, seventh place; Cantu Elementary School, eighth place (tie); Escobar/Rios Elementary School, eighth place (tie); Mims Elementary School, eighth place (tie); Mission Jr. High School, ninth place; Alton Memorial Jr. High School, tenth place.

                For several years, Mission CISD librarians have used the Texas Library Association’s Bluebonnet Book Awards program to help encourage elementary and junior high school students to read a wide variety of books. The Bluebonnet books consist of 20 different books, selected by a committee of librarians from the Texas Library Association.

                The annual Mission CISD Battle of the Bluebonnet Books contest challenges the campus teams of five with answering several questions about each of the 20 books on the Bluebonnet list in a quiz show style format.
