Mission CISD Destination Imagination teams have strong showing at regional competition

                Destination Imagination (DI) teams from Mission CISD (Consolidated Independent School District) elementary and junior high schools had a strong presence at the recent South Border Bridge regional competition. Fifteen teams placed in the top ten of their competition areas.

                Through the DI program, small teams of students select one of several challenges and then work for several weeks to find creative solutions and projects to present in competition.

                The top placing Mission CISD team was from Leal Elementary School. They participated in the Feary Tales challenge and placed second.

                Six teams placed third. They are: two from Midkiff Elementary School, Feary Tales; Castro Elementary School, The Improve Games; R. Cantu Jr. High School, Feary Tales; Alton Memorial Jr. High School, Lose to Win; K. White Jr. High School, Brand Aid.          

                Finishing in fourth place: Mims Elementary School, Feary Tales; Cavazos Elementary School, Lose to Win; Mission Jr. High School, Feary Tales.

                Waitz Elementary School had a team place fifth in the Feary Tales challenge.

                Finishing in sixth place: Mims Elementary School, Creature Feature; Midkiff Elementary School, Making Waves; Escobar/Rios Elementary School, Feary Tales; Waitz Elementary School, Feary Tales.

                Special awards were earned by two teams. The Improve Games team from Castro Elementary School earned the Renaissance Award for outstanding design, engineering, execution and performance. The Feary Tales team from R. Cantu Jr. High School earned the DaVinci Award for new and unique destination and outstanding creativity.
