Mission, Texas- Mission CISD (Consolidated Independent School District) has learned that Patricia O’Caña-Olivarez will be honored by the Texas Classroom Teachers Association as its School Board Trustee of the Year. O’Caña-Olivarez is currently serving as president of the Mission CISD Board of Trustees. She was elected to the board in 2008.

O’Caña-Olivarez will be recognized by the TCTA at its convention in Austin, Texas in July.

According to the TCTA website, the School Board Trustee of the Year award is designed to honor an outstanding school board trustee, to project a clear image of what classroom teachers and other non-administrative professionals feel exemplifies an outstanding trustee; and to promote communication and understanding between TCTA members and trustees.

Nominees are judged by the following criteria: amount of time served on the school board; quality of interactions with district teachers and other non-administrative professional staff; quality of interactions with district students and parents; leadership and support that show a commitment to educators, students and public education; and relationship with other school board trustees and top district administrators.
