Mission, Texas- Mission CISD (Consolidated Independent School District) Special Olympic athletes recently competed in the spring track and field games held in Weslaco, Texas. The medal counts rose rather high for our students.
Mission High School: 12 gold medals, 15 silver medals, nine bronze medals, 4 ribbons. Veterans Memorial High School: seven gold medals, eight silver medals, six bronze medals, 5 ribbons. Alton Memorial Jr. High School: two gold medals, three silver medals, one bronze medal. K. White Jr. High School: one bronze medal, one ribbon. Mission Jr. High School: four gold medals, nine silver medals, seven bronze medals, four ribbons. R. Cantu Jr. High School: five gold medals, two silver medals, five bronze medals, six ribbons. Alton Elementary School: three gold medals, two silver medals, one ribbon. Bryan Elementary School: one bronze medal, one ribbon. Cantu Elementary School: three gold medals, one silver medal. Midkiff Elementary School: two gold medals, four silver medals, two bronze medals, two ribbons. Mims Elementary School: four gold medals. Pearson Elementary School: one bronze medal, one ribbon.
Each student athlete participated in heats and divisions according to their ability level and age. The athletes also had the opportunity to participate in other related special events from the spring games, including: opening ceremonies and an athlete village.
