VMHS students earn AP Scholar Awards

                Mission, Texas- A total of 14 students at Veterans Memorial High School (VMHS) have earned AP Scholar Awards in recognition of their exceptional achievement on AP (Advanced Placement) exams.

                The College Board’s Advanced Placement Program provides motivated and academically prepared students with the opportunity to take rigorous, college-level courses while still in high school, and to earn college credit, advanced placement, or both for successful performance on the AP exams. The College Board recognizes several levels of achievement, based on students’ performances on AP exams.

                One student qualified for the National AP Scholar Award by earning an average score of at least 4 on all AP exams taken, and scores of 4 or higher on eight or more of the exams. Darius Davis, from the Class of 2015, was named a National AP Scholar.

                Four students qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award. This is granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of the exams. The four students are: current VMHS seniors Feliciano Escobedo, Hector Iglesias, Rene Olivarez; and Darius Davis from the Class of 2015.

                Current senior, Tomas Garcia, qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor Award. This is earned by receiving an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of the exams.

                Nine students qualified for the AP Scholar Award by completed three or more AP exams with grades of 3 or higher. Junior, Isaac Martinez and senior, Aimee Villarreal have earned the AP Scholar Award. Members of the Class of 2015 who also earned this award include: Noel Barsenas, Jaime Bazaldua, Henry Davis, Judith Haro, Jacqueline Martinez, Ted Rodriguez, Lee Sanchez.
