Mims students make history come to life in a “wax museum"

Fifth grade students provided parents and guests with an early Halloween treat of learning that featured 18 historical figures. The participating students researched their historical figure, helped create special backdrops and costumes, and oral presentations. The result was a type of wax museum of history that came to life.

The students, in costume and character, stood in front of their backdrop and waited for a guest to step on a target spot on the floor in front of them. The student would then present information about “themselves” while staying in character for the historical figure they represented.

The project provided valuable lessons in Social Studies, Science, and presentation skills.

Some of the historical figures recreated by the students included: Rosa Parks, Ronald Reagan, Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, Susan B. Anthony, Abraham Lincoln, Alexander Graham Bell, and Neil Armstrong.
