Kindhearted gesture makes AMJH Homecoming dance extra special

Mission, Texas- School traditions were thrown out the window by students during this year’s Homecoming dance at Alton Memorial Jr. High School in a very kindhearted way. The event started like those of the past. This year, Jannelle Marroquin was selected as Homecoming Queen in the school’s Homecoming Court election. At the dance, Marroquin was officially crowned the Homecoming Queen. This is where the students had a few surprises of their own.

Upon receiving her crown and sash, Marroquin thanked the student body for selecting her. She then turned around and presented her crown and sash to Diana Trejo. Marroquin proceeded to explain to everyone at the dance how deserving of the honor Diana Trejo was and how brave, courageous, and strong Diana Trejo has been during her recent battle with cancer. The Homecoming Court twists don’t end there.

The twin sister of Diana Trejo, Keyla, then stepped up to the microphone, praised her sister for being a positive role model for all students. Keyla also said her sister was beautiful inside and out, and expressed her opinion that all the Homecoming Queen candidates were winners and beautiful. At that point, Keyla gave each of the 15 Homecoming Queen candidates their own crown.

For the first time, AMJH had 15 beautiful Homecoming Queens.
