Mission, Texas- Nine athletes from the Mission CISD (Consolidated Independent School District) Special Olympics programs are the first in many years to participate in the sport of powerlifting. They competed against other schools on December 10, at the Area 1 powerlifting tournament. The competition consisted of two items: bench press, and deadlift.
Each of the nine students placed in the top three in their weight classes.
Veterans Memorial High School results: Bryan Arrellano, second place, bench press; Pedro Ruiz, second place, bench press; Sebastian Llamas, third place, bench press; Armando Sanchez, first place, bench press.
Mission High school results: Frankie Villalobos, third place in bench press, third place in dead lift; Adrian Rodriguez, third place in bench press; Joey Bravo, second place in bench press; Robert Wheat, third place in bench press, second place in deadlift; Ashley de la Rosa, first place in bench press, first place in deadlift.
