MHS BPA students qualify for state competition

            Mission, Texas- Top students from Mission High School (MHS) will be attending the Business Professionals of America (BPA) 2016 State Leadership Conference in Corpus Christi, Texas in early March. They will join over 2,700 other conference delegates from across the state to participate in state level business skill competitions, general sessions, and the state officer candidate campaigns and elections. They are advancing to state, based upon their performance at the recent regional BPA competitions.

            In total, the MHS BPA has 23 state qualifiers in 13 different events with 16 state alternates in six events. The following students are advancing to state, along with how they placed in their regional competition: Yvette Cazares, first place, advanced office systems and procedures; Chelsea Martinez, second place, advanced office systems and procedures; Jin Gao, third place, advanced spreadsheets; Gerardo Hernandez, fourth place, advanced spreadsheets; Alejandra Reyna, first place; advances word processing; Alejandra Gamez, second place, basic office systems and procedures; Enrique Pina, third place, database applications; Giselle Ponce, fourth place, database applications; Jose Alvarez, third place, fundamental spreadsheets; Jay Reta-Cordoba, third place fundamentals of web design; Marcela Rodriguez, second place, integrated software applications; Kenya Salinas, first place intermediate word processing; Maxine Rodriguez, second place intermediate word processing; Tiana Rivas, fourth place, intermediate word processing; Stefanie Florez, first place, medical office procedures; Keyla Beltran, second place, medical office procedures; Lenore Villarreal, fourth place, medical office procedures.

            The following teams are advancing to state: computer animations, Gustavo Castorena, Lorenzo Lopez, Rocio Osorio, second place; video production, Stefanie Florez, Maria Briones, Cyana Cantu, Marco Silva, second place; administrative support team, Maxine Rodriguez, Jin Gao, Alejandra Reyna, Enrique Pina, first place.

            Other top place finishers include several students who competed in “open events.” Katherine McKenna placed first in management-marketing-and human resources, and second in information technology. Ricky Yruegas placed third in administrative support and fourth in information technology. Luis De La Fuente place sixth in the business meeting competition.

            Other top place finishers in the individual events of the regional competition include: Dante Rodrigues, fifth place, database applications; Marco Silva, sixth place, payroll accounting; Juan Reyna, sixth place, PC service and troubleshooting.
