Mission, Texas- A total of 24 athletes from Mission High School (MHS) and Veterans Memorial High School (VMHS) recently participated in the Area 1 Special Olympics basketball tournament, bringing home 19 medals and 5 ribbons.
The individual skills competition included a 10 meter dribble, a target pass, and spot shooting. Individual results from MHS: Hortencia de la Rosa, first place; Jackie Porcayo, first place; Ana Villarreal, second place; Levy Valencia, second place; Brandon Garza, second place; Vianney Campos, third place; Jose Cerda, third place; Raylene Vela, fourth place; Adrian Rodriguez, fifth place. Individual results from VMHS: Emily Gonzalez, first place; Cesario Pena, first place; Ethan Linares, second place; Sebastian Llamas, third place; Priscilla Anguiano, third place; Elidia Garcia, third place; Jazmin Villanueva, fourth place; Moises Flores, fourth place; Alfonso Sanchez, fourth place.
In the three-on-three, team competition, team members came from both high schools. The first team consisting of Pedro Ruiz, Bryan Arellano, Ashley de la Rosa placed second. Team two, consisting of robert Wheat, Joey Bravo, Armando Sanchez, also placed second.
