VMHS FFA Chapter students earn awards, buckles, scholarships at STAR

 

            Mission, Texas- For the members of the Veterans Memorial High School FFA Chapter, livestock show season includes the South Texas Agriculture Roundup (STAR) Show held in Edinburg, Texas. This year, the chapter brought home a variety of honors, buckles, and scholarships.

            Students earning champion honors for their projects include: Javier Martinez, reserve grand champion market hog; Marcus Cordova, champion lamb showman; Zenaida Alaniz, reserve champion lamb showman; Jorge Salinas Jr., reserve champion goat showman 15-16 year olds; Alexandra Salinas, reserve champion goat showman 13-14 year olds; Javier Martinez, champion light cross market hog.

            Scholarships were earned by: Zenaida Alaniz, David Bazan Jr., Christina Reyna.

            The Veterans Memorial FFA Chapter also earned the STAR Gala Excellence Award, recognizing FFA chapters that exceed the goals set forth by the STAR Gala committee.

            Chapter results for market hog division include: Alexandra Salinas, second place; David Bazan, second place; Edgar Villarreal, fourth place; Marcos Diaz, fifth place; Andrea Garza, sixth place; Jorge Salinas, seventh place; Kyanna Vela, seventh place; Christina Reyna, seventh place; Randy Ruiz, seventh place; Daniel Munguia, seventh place.

            Market lamb results include: Zenaida Alaniz, fourth place; Marcus Cordova, sixth place.

            Market Goat division results include: Alexandra Salinas, first place; Jorge Salinas, first place.

            Market steer division results included: David Bazan, fourth place.

            Breeding cattle division results included: Christina Reyna, third place, and fourteenth place overall in commercial heifer division.
