MCHS students selected for special UT-RGV summer internship

Mission, Texas- Two students from Mission Collegiate High School (MCHS) have been selected, along with only 8 other high schools students, to participate in the UT-RGV High School Summer Internship Program, funded by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. In June, Harry Siegel and Valerie Flores will begin the six-week program that will allow them to experience research at a university level, while under the mentorship of UT-RGV professors.

As a part of the internship, Siegel and Flores will be required to work a minimum of 25 hours a week, and be allowed to take one three-credit course at UT-RGV, as long as the course does not conflict with their internship lab work. Upon successful completion of the internship, the students will also receive a $1,200 stipend.

At the end of the six-week internship, the students will also present their findings from their completed research to the STEM UT-RGV faculty and staff.
