Mission, Texas- Veterans Memorial High School (VMHS) junior, Mirna Rodriguez will be spending a few days at Princeton University this summer learning more about journalism from reporters from some of the nation’s leading news organizations. Rodriguez, a VMHS GEAR UP student, has been selected to attend the Princeton University Summer Journalism Program in Princeton, New Jersey. Over 350 students from around the country applied for the program. Only 38 were selected to participate.
The summer program will be an intensive, 10-day seminar on journalism. The program’s goal is to diversify college and professional newsrooms by encouraging outstanding students to pursue careers in journalism. Classes are taught by reporters and editors from The New York Times, The Washington Post, The New Yorker, New York Magazine, Time Magazine, The Daily Beast, CNN, NPR, and other media outlets.
