MHS FFA student selected as youth health ambassador

 

            Mission, Texas- Mission High School (MHS) FFA member, Julissa Alvarez has been selected to serve as a Youth Health Ambassador as a part of the Healthy South Texas Initiative.

            Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, in partnership with the Texas A&M Health Science Center has had the opportunity to work on a new health initiative called Healthy South Texas. The purpose of the initiative is to reduce diabetes, asthma, and other preventable diseases in a 27 county area in South Texas by providing health and nutrition education.

            As a Youth Health Ambassador, Alvarez will be trained in health and nutrition topics related to the Healthy South Texas Initiative. Once the training is complete, she will join other ambassadors in educating the community on the health topics involved.
