MJH students Skype with New York Times bestselling author

Mission, Texas- Students at Mission Jr. High School (MJH) who officially reached millionaire status in the district’s Renaissance Accelerated Reader program got a special treat. The 86 students who had read at least one million words were treated with an online visit with New York Times bestselling author, Michael Northrop. He is well-known for his TombQuest series of books that focus on ancient Egypt.

During the Skype session, Northrop shared his personal story regarding challenges with dyslexia as a child and how he was a reluctant reader as a student. He encouraged students to find a reading genre that appeals to them personally. He also touched on the topic of writing, and where he gets his writing inspiration. The Skype session ended with a lively question and answer period.

Through special arrangements with Scholastic Books, students were allowed to cash in special vouchers and purchase books. Each student also received a free copy of Northrop’s current release.
