Dual Language Heroes

Among the many trainings going on for teachers, is one specifically designed to provide support for the elementary teachers who are a part of our dual language instruction. This year, dual language instruction expands one more grade level to now include grades Pre-K through third grade. The program will continue to expand one grade level each school year until it involves grades Pre-K through fifth.

Mission CISD is using a proven, one-way dual language enrichment model. Through this model, bilingual students receive instruction for some subjects in Spanish; while others are done in English. Students do not re-learn in a second language; they transfer information across languages in a natural and structured way. The goal is to have Mission CISD students finish elementary school as bi-literate individuals.

Pictured are teachers during a break in their training this week. If you look closely, their t-shirts reflect a hero theme for the year.
