VMHS volleyball players earn All-District and All-Star Honors

            Mission, Texas- Several players from the Veterans Memorial High School (VMHS) Lady Patriots Volleyball Team have been named to All-District Teams and received other honors associated with the program.

            Alexandria Jimenez was named one of two Most Valuable Players. Jacqueline Howell earned honors as Outstanding Defensive Specialist.

            Named to the First Team, All-District were: Iliana Contreras, Makenzie Gerlach, Andrea de la Garza.

            Receiving Honorable Mention honors were: D’Lyza Medina and Karyna Lozano.

            Five student athletes were named to the All-Academic Team: Veronica Cantu, Andrea de la Garza, Daniella De La Garza, Jacqueline Howell, Karyna Lozano.

            Coach of the Year honors went to Martina Carrillo.

            When the 2016 Rio Grande Valley Volleyball All-Star Showcase games are held on December 11, the 5A All-Star West team will include three VMHS players. Seniors, Alexandra Jimenez, Andrea de la Garza, and D’Lyza Medina were named to the West team. VMHS head coach, Martina Carrillo was selected to coach the All-Star West team.

            The 5A All-Star West game will be played at McAllen Memorial High School at about 2:00 p.m. It is sponsored by the Tip of Texas Volleyball Officials Chapter.
