Gold’s Gym Helps Staff Stay Safe at Work

Trainers from Gold’s Gym in Mission stopped by MCISD’s Fixed Assets/Warehouse Department to make sure they have the knowledge and techniques to stay safe at work. Andres Garza, Coordinator for Fixed Assets, Warehouse, Textbooks & Records, said it’s important to incorporate stretching and exercise as part of the workday.

Trainers led the staff in warm-up exercises to help them avoid strains and other injuries by making sure the muscles are prepared for heavy lifting. Staff also practiced proper techniques to avoid back injuries when lifting or setting down heavy objects. The key is to use the legs and hold objects from the bottom for the best grip and stability. Clerical staff also learned how to stretch their legs, back and wrists without walking away from their desk. The hands-on training was part of the department’s regular safety meeting.
