Mission CISD’s Veterans Memorial High School hosted the Special Olympics Area 1, Powerlifting Tournament for the second consecutive year. Teams attending the event were Los Fresnos ISD, Mercedes ISD, Sharyland ISD, Weslaco ISD, and the host team, Mission CISD.
The students qualifying for the state competition in powerlifting will be joining the bowling competitors who qualified for state in November. Mission CISD will be taking 16 athletes (five for powerlifting and 11 for bowling) to compete at the state Special Olympics Winter Games to be held in Austin from Feb. 2-5, 2017.
