January 25, 2017– Alton Memorial Jr. High’s (AMJH) robotics teams held the top spots at the TCEA (Texas Computer Education Association) Area 1 Robotics Competition January 21. Area 1 consists of seven counties in South Texas, including Cameron, Hidalgo, Jim Hogg, Starr, Webb, Willacy and Zapata. The Area 1 robotics competition is one of the largest in the state with more than 300 teams participating.
In the Intermediate Arena, THE AMJH Silver Robo-Rangers team won 1st placed for the third year in a row. In the Intermediate Inventions category, the Magenta Robo-Rangers finished second, and the Sapphire Robo-Rangers finished in fourth place. In the Advanced Arena category, the Red Robo-Rangers won second place.
The teams that placed first and second in their categories automatically advance to the TCEA state contest. Teams that finish a close third place or fourth can also advance to the state competition pending a wildcard invitation by TCEA. Three Robo-Rangers teams place in the top five at the state competition last year, bringing home 2nd place in the Advanced Arena, 3rd place in Intermediate Inventions, and 5th place in Intermediate Arena.
