Mission, Texas- The R. Cantu Jr. High School (RCJH) varsity band earned Sweepstakes honors at the recent UIL Concert and Sight Reading competition held at La Joya High School.
Sweepstakes honors are given to bands that earn a “superior” or Division I rating on the concert performance and sight reading performances. Students and staff invest countless hours preparing for this event. Unlike their high school counterparts, this is as far as they advance in competition.
This is the first time since RCJH first opened that their varsity band has earned Sweepstakes honors at the UIL contest.
The band is directed by Jose L. Barrera, Vanessa Montelongo, Albert Sanchez.
