MCISD Migrant students travel to Austin for Leadership Conference

Mission CISD had a total of ten students from Alton Memorial Jr. High, Rafael Cantu Jr. High, and Mission Jr. High take a special trip to Austin, Texas. They had the opportunity to attend the Close Up Leadership Conference held at the Embassy Suites Austin Central on June 13- June 15, 2018.

 

Students attended seminars at the conference that focused on government law, branches of government and elections. On Thursday, students even had mock elections to put into practice everything they had learned from the workshops they had attended.

 

MCISD participants along with others from throughout the state were fortunate to have participated in several tours such as of the Bullock History Museum, State Capitol, LBJ Library, and University of Texas at Austin campus.

 

The students that participated on this historical trip were: Angel Chavero, Ximena Herevia, Evelyn Hernandez, Evenlyn Liguez Acuna, Valerie Mendoza, Kassandra Oveido Ramos, Lizzeth Pena, Valerie Ramirez, Maria Rangel, and Rosalinda Sarmiento-Aguilar.
