MCISD CNP develops food programs to maximize learning for students

Mission CISD Child Nutrition Program works diligently throughout the year to ensure that healthy meals are provided to students in all the cafeterias. CNP is excited about several new initiatives that have been implemented recently and others that will be at campuses soon. One of those initiatives is the Grab and Go Breakfast that has already started at Veterans Memorial High School and Mission High School.

Grab and Go provides breakfast options in which students can select several items from a fully stocked cart. Once their selection is made then the student just enters their student number in the keypad and off they go to their classroom. This is just one more way that CNP is assuring that students start off on the right foot by having some breakfast.

“We want to help students learn better by assuring that they are not hungry during the day,” states Rosy Woodrum, CNP director. “So, with the Grab and Go Breakfast the students can select four to five items and then have the option to eat them in the morning or at some point during the day when they get hungry.”

Breakfast in the cafeteria is still available for all students with multiple hot selections to choose from in addition to the Grab and Go Breakfast program. The Grab and Go Breakfast and other CNP initiatives were created with the support and leadership of Dr. Carol G. Perez (MCISD superintendent) and administrators.
