Counseling and Guidance Resources

The MCISD  Guidance and Counseling’s Mission is to implement a comprehensive developmental guidance and counseling program promoting student success through a focus on academic achievement, prevention and intervention activities, advocacy and social/emotional and career development to meet the needs of the students and community of MCISD.

The model is based on the following four components:

Guidance Curriculum, Individual Planning, Responsive Service, and System Support

MCISD School Counselors are responsive to campus needs and provide services in accordance with TEC 33.005 and follow the Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs. 

 

Definition: MCISD Counseling Department will support each student to reach academic achievement, achieve emotional/social well-being, and become productive citizens through a comprehensive program. We believe each student deserves a safe and welcoming learning environment. Moreover, we believe in working with all stakeholders through partnerships with students, parents, staff, and the community to ensure academic and social-emotional success for all students.

Rationale: A comprehensive school counseling program is designed to provide all students with effective resources and services to achieve success within their academic, career, and personal/social domains. It is promoted by the Texas Model; which provide clear roles and responsibilities for school counselors in order to reduce non-school counseling tasks. Moreover, a comprehensive program provides a systematic, collaborative, developmental, and preventative approach that is integrated into the school’s mission and philosophy.

Assumptions: MCISD Comprehensive School Counseling Program will implement the following to have a successful program and support student’s social emotional learning and academic success:

  1. The MCISD Counselors will follow the Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Program.
  2. The MCISD Counselors will be provided with a Counseling Budget.
  3. The MCISD counselors will use the Needs Assessment data to determine campus and student needs throughout the school year.
  4. The school and district will clearly define and support the counselor roles on campus.
